Splash Rating for Free Agency Targets: Chicago Bears
Brad Smith - Ever since the lockout has ended today, we have been hearing the agendas of various teams. The Bears were said to be looking at getting Brad Smith. While getting Smith is a great move, it cannot be the only move for a WR the Bears make all FA. Smith is a Devin Hester type of player who has been converted in a WR from a QB. He is a great returner, a good third string QB option (new CBA rule), and a good slot receiver. This selection could be a move that leads to the big move like the Peppers deal last year. Anthony Adams - The Bears have two up and coming defensive tackles in Stephen Paea and Matt Toeaina. Although they are both good young developing defensive linemen, the line needs Anthony Adams. He is a large run blocker who clogs the lane as Julius Peppers, Israel Idonije, and Stephen Paea/Matt Toeaina attack the QB. He should be returning to the Bears due to his relationship and veteran experience with the system. Splash Rating: Stepping in a Puddle
Antonio Cromartie - The Bears have been in need of a solid number 2 corner back alongside Peanut Tillman for awhile now. This is good new for Cromartie who is a tall, athletic CB who plays well in zone coverage, which the Tampa 2 is built around. Splash Rating: Cannon Ball into a Pool
Braylon Edwards - There is a high probability that the Jets will dump Edwards' contract in order to make room for Santonio Holmes. With the Bears looking for a tall number one receiver, then it may be time for Edwards to step up and play up to that number 3 draft pick. He failed in Cleveland and NY to be the number one receiver, and if he makes it to Chicago he will be put under a microscope along with Jay Cutler to make it work. He had a problem with drops two seasons ago, but he seems to have better control. The signing could put the Bears into contention in the division with the Super Bowl Champion Packers, The D-Line of Death Detroit Lions, and the Hardnosed Defensive Minded Vikes. He will sign a big contract, and to see whether his play will match will be up to the staff and the fans. He is a big name who can only get bigger by becoming a number one receiver for the rocket armed Jay Cutler. Splash Rating: Surfing Waves in Hawaii crashing to the Shore
